As we arrive at the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year and the high point of summer, the hedgerow is at its fullest. The foxgloves are nearly over and a heron has returned to my stretch of river. As the Sun reaches the still point of the solar pendulum, held between in-breath and out-breath, it feels like a moment to pause and appreciate the abundance of the season, the fruits that are growing from the seeds planted in Spring, before the wheel of the year slowly begins to turn.
